Some NWC customers take issue with the company’s rate increase announcement

by April 28th, 2022

Some customers of the National Water Commission, NWC, have taken issue with the company’s recent announcement, of an increase in service fees, effective next month.

The NWC noted that the rate increase of 11.7 per cent, follows a rate adjustment, granted by the office of Utilities Regulation, OUR.

In responding to the announcement, one resident of Allman Town, Kingston, told Irie FM News, that her household has been experiencing frequent disruptions in the water supply.

She said, the bills are already too high and any increase on service bills will be utterly unfair.

Meantime, a St. Ann resident said the 11.7 per cent rate increase, represents a disregard for customers, who have been bearing the brunt of other frequent price increases.

He lamented, that despite consumers paying more money for goods and services, salaries are not being increased at a rate, that would allow citizens to pay bills and experience a good quality of life.

However, one woman from Kingston stated, that although customers are suffering, based on the global economic climate, she understands NWC‘s decision to increase the rates.
