Opposition Spokesman on Health Dr. Morais Guy has indicated that the continued increase in new Covid-19 cases in recent days, was expected.

He was reacting to reports from the Health Ministry that 115 new cases were recorded yesterday (April 27).

This is the first time in weeks that the daily Covid-19 case count has surpassed 100.

Dr. Guy pointed to the presence of the Omicron sub-variant, and removal of restrictions, as contributing factors.

He also expressed concern about the low vaccine take up among Jamaicans, as with the virus still present in country, many citizens remain at risk.
