UWI launches investigation into alleged incident of sexual assault at the institution

The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona has launched an investigation into an alleged incident of sexual assault at the institution last week.

 

It’s alleged that a female student was held at knifepoint, forced into a bathroom and then assaulted.

 

Speaking with IRIE FM news, the UWI’s Deputy Registrar, Jonathan Archie confirmed that the institution is aware of the incident.

 

He said the matter is being thoroughly investigated by the police and the University.

He also noted that the institution has reached out to the victim to offer counselling support.

Mr. Archie is also assuring students that the UWI continues to work to ensure their safety.

Meantime, UWI Guild President, Danielle Mullings is appealing to students to exercise extra caution when moving around campus.
