by May 19th, 2022

Double Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson-Herah has withdrawn from the Mueller Diamond League meet in Birmingham on Saturday.

A statement by meet organizers said the decision was taken out of an abundance of caution after she experienced discomfort in training.

The statement also goes on to add that Thompson-Herah looks forward to resuming her competition schedule in short order.

Thompson-Herah who was down to make her Diamond League season debut, was due to face a star-studded field in the women’s 100 meters that included Olympic bronze medalist Shericka Jackson, world silver medalist Dina Asher-Smith of Great Britain and Americans Gabby Thomas…..the Olympic 200m bronze medalist and Cambrea Sturgis…the third fastest over the distance in the world this year.

The 29 year old in her last outing  she ran 10.93 seconds to win the women’s 100 meter event at the Puerto Rico Classic earlier this month.

With Thompson-Herah pulling out……the attention from a Jamaican perspective will now be on the exciting match-up between the last two Olympic champions……Hansle Parchment and Omar Mcleod who are down face-off in a competitive 110m hurdles event that also  includes former World Indoor champion Andrew Pozzi of Great Britain

In the meantime, Yohan Blake…..the former Olympic silver medalist will contest the men’s 200 meters where he faces the likes of reigning Olympic 200m champion Andre De Grasse, former World Indoor champion Trayvon Bromell and reigning European champion Zharnel Hughes, formerly of Kingston College.
