With Jamaica’s COVID-19 cases now surpassing four hundred new infections daily, Opposition Spokesman on Health, Dr Morais Guy is urging Prime Minister Andrew Holness to act immediately on his intention to re-impose the mask mandate.
On Friday, the Prime Minister said the mask mandate would be re-instated in short order.
The Prime Minister’s statement followed confirmation that the country is experiencing a fifth wave of COVID-19 infections.
Speaking in an interview with IRIE F-M NEWS, Dr Guy said the mandate should have already been re-instated.
Dr Guy said COVID-19 cases will continue to increase for several days after the mandate is re-imposed.
Meanwhile, the Opposition Spokesman said the mandate alone is not enough to tackle the latest surge.
He re-iterated that increased testing is also necessary.
