The security guard who was charged in relation to an explosion at the Bank of Nova Scotia Branch in Port Antonio, Portland was unable to appear in court yesterday (May 24), as he remains hospitalized.

Calvin Hill was charged on May 5, for the offences of arson, housebreaking and creating public mischief.

Reports are that on April 23, the explosion, and subsequent fire, destroyed two Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and damaged sections of the bank’s building on Harbour Street.

The accused was reportedly injured in the explosion and was admitted for treatment at the hospital.

When his case was mentioned yesterday at the Portland Parish Court, the court was informed by the investigating officer that Hill is still admitted to the hospital under police guard.

The court was also informed that no lawyer has yet been assigned to represent the accused.

Hill was further remanded by the Parish Court Judge until June 3, when his case will again be mentioned.
