5 persons shot and killed in separate incidents yesterday

At least 5 people were shot and killed in separate incidents in St. James, St. Catherine and Kingston, yesterday (May 25).

Dead are 27-year-old Chadwell Fraser, of Felicity Road, Glendevon, 24-year-old Chamario Calvin, of Rose Heights and 25-year-old Toni-Ann Reid of Jarrett Terrace, all in St. James, fifty-five-year-old Byron Dawson, of Taylor Road, Dovecot in St. Catherine, and thirty-seven-year-old Jermain Edwards, a taxi operator of Riverside Drive, Harbour View in Kingston.

Edwards was killed in the latest incident on the Sir Florizel Glasspole Highway in Kingston.

Reports from the Elletson Road police are that about 10:05 p.m., Edwards was driving his Toyota Probox motorcar along the roadway, when the vehicle went over an embankment and collided in a concrete structure.

Shortly after, explosions were heard and three men were seen exiting the vehicle.

The police were summoned and Edwards was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Hours earlier, Dawson was shot and killed at his home in Taylor Road, Dovecot in St. Catherine.

Reports are that at about 8:15pm, Dawson was standing outside his yard, when he was pounced upon by gun men who opened fire hitting him to the upper body.

The police were alerted and on their arrival, Dawson was seen lying in a pool of blood.

The area was searched and another man was found in bushes with gunshot wounds to his upper body.

Both men were taken to hospital, where Dawson was pronounced dead and the other man admitted in serious condition.

And over in Marl Road, Rose Heights in St. James, three people were shot and killed and two others wounded.

Reports are that about 4:20 p.m., all five persons were gathered along the roadway; when a motor vehicle drove up with armed men aboard.

The gunmen alighted from the car with high-powered rifles and opened fire at the group.

The police were alerted and the five wounded persons were taken to hospital where Fraser, Reid and Calvin were pronounced dead and the others admitted.

The police are investigating the incidents.

Meantime, Councillor for Montego Bay South East, Arthur Lynch has condemned the murder of 3 persons and the wounding of 2 others, in Marl Road, Rose Heights, in St. James, yesterday (May 25).

He is urging persons with information that may assist the police in their investigations, to come forward.
