Elaine Thompson -Herah and Shelly Ann-Fraser winners at Eugene Diamond League meet

Olympic champion Elaine Thompson -Herah was in sizzling form earlier today as she ran a season best 10.79 seconds to stave off a star studded field to win the women’s 100 meters at the Eugene Diamond League meeting in Oregon. 

Thompson Herah who skipped the last Diamond League meeting in Birmingham returned this week to finish ahead of the American Sha’carri Richardson who surprised the field to clock a season best 10.92 seconds, the same time credited to Shericka Jackson who finished third. 

Great Britain’s Dina Asher -Smith was fourth 10.98 seconds, while another Jamaican Brianna Williams was 9th in 11.20 seconds.

Trevon Brommel won the men’s equivalent in 9.93 seconds. 

Meanwhile, Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce won the women’s 200 meters in a season’s best 22.41 seconds, to finish ahead of American Brittany Brown  22.74 and the Bahamian Antonique Strachan 22.76 seconds.

World Championship gold medalist Danielle Williams had to settle for 5th in the women’s 100 metres hurdles in 12.71 seconds, the event won by the Puerto Rican Jasmine Camacho Quinn in 12.45 seconds. 

Earlier Commonwealth games bronze medalist Jaheel Hyde finished 7th in the men’s 400 metres hurdles in 50.38 seconds, while his compatriot Kemar Mowatt was last in 50.81 seconds. 

The event was won by Alison dos Santos of Brazil in a world leading 47.23 seconds. 

Natoya Goule was a third place finisher in the women’s 800 metres in a season’s best 1 minute 59. 39 seconds, the event was won by Keely Hodgkinson of Great Britain in a world leading 1 minute 57.72 seconds.
