Political Analyst Kevin Obrien Chang says a decision by Government to redirect funds from payments on Jamaica’s debt to alleviate financial hardships being faced by Jamaicans, would not be a smart economic move.

The call for the redirection of funds was made by Opposition Leader Mark Golding, who said the Government needs to increase spending for the well-being of Jamaicans.

Recently, Jamaica has seen major increases in the cost of goods and services, as well as agricultural inputs, with the bank of Jamaica projecting that inflation will rise as high as 15 per cent in June.

Reacting to the call from Mr. Golding, Mr. Obrien Chang said Jamaica must continue its focus on debt reduction.

He stressed the need for stability in the economy.
