A lack of water in several St Ann communities has resulted in five basic schools closing their doors.

The communities of Union, Lodge, Top Mountain, Breadnut Hill, Colegate, Swansea and Mile End, have been without piped water for the past three weeks.

Councillor for the Beecher Town Division of the St Ann Parish Council Ian Bell says the residents are fed up with the situation.

He says the Breadnut Hill, Winston Preddie, Mile End, Union and Clifton Lodge basic schools have had to send home children.
