Rising oil prices could impact travel to Jamaica

by June 9th, 2022

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has expressed concern that record-high gas prices could impact Jamaica’s tourist arrivals in the coming months.

Speaking at the 2022 Summit of the Americas in the United States yesterday (June 9), Mr. Holness noted that in the short term, global travel will be another area of increased concern.

He said while Jamaica is not yet seeing the impact on travel to the country, things could change at any time.

The Prime Minister said tourism stakeholders must prepare for the possible impacts.

Meantime, Mr. Holness noted that the future of tourism is also being threatened by climate change effects.
