Jamaica Fisherman Co-operative Union urges fisherfolk to act with caution when at sea

by June 28th, 2022

At least one stakeholder in the fishing industry is encouraging fisherfolk to act with caution when carrying out their duties at sea.

This after a shark attacked a fisherman in Clarendon at the weekend. The fisherman survived but has been left with injuries.

Speaking with IRIE FM news, Committee Member of the Jamaica Fisherman Co-operative Union, Shawn Taylor said shark appearances are becoming more frequent, especially with changes in the climate.

Mr. Taylor notes that the weekend’s shark attack is not the only incident of such kind to have occurred.

He warns that fisherfolk must look carefully before taking a leap when at sea.

He is also urging consumers to support fisherfolk, especially since these people risk their lives daily when trying to execute their duties.
