Praedial Larceny Arrests

by December 13th, 2015

The Praedial Larceny Prevention Unit (PLPU) conducted special operations in St. Elizabeth and Clarendon recently as part of intensified efforts for the festive season.

Vehicular checkpoints were established and several vehicles that were transporting livestock and other agricultural produce were searched.

The operations resulted in two people being taken into custody for Breaches of the Agricultural Produce Act and one for Larceny of Cattle.

In addition, 12 heads of cattle were recovered in St. Elizabeth and the PLPU is appealing to anyone whose cattle was recently stolen to contact the Black River Police at 965-2332 with the relevant documentation.

The PLPU is reminding members of the public that it is an offence for anyone to carry agricultural produce without a receipt issued by the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS).

The police say they will be taking a zero-tolerance approach to this offence, which attracts a fine of up to $250,000.00.

The PLPU is also reminding farmers to register with the JAS and obtain the required receipt book.

Farmers should also take steps to secure their produce as best as possible during this festive season.
