Youth advocate urges Jamaicans to move away from 2 political party culture

by July 27th, 2022

A youth advocate has called for Jamaicans to do away with their 2 political party culture, and become more accepting of a system where anyone, even independents, can govern the affairs of the country.

Sabrina Barnes says over the years, Jamaicans have limited themselves to choosing political representatives from the island’s 2 main political parties – The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and The People’s National Party (PNP).

She acknowledges that third parties have historically not been able to gain much traction and support from citizens.

Ms Barnes says the reliance on, only 2 political parties, does not result in betterment for the country, as both parties continually make promises that are rarely fulfilled.

She says it is time for Jamaicans to question the feasibility of the political divide.

She was speaking last evening, at the ‘Our Jamaican Republic Virtual Forum’, hosted by the advocates network.
