Former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Seymour Panton has blasted the Government for its seeming attachment to the United Kingdom-based Privy Council.

Speaking at a special guest lecture to mark the 60th anniversary of the Appeal Court yesterday (August 3), Justice Panton said Jamaica’s parliamentarians need to wake up.

He said after 60 years Jamaica should not still be attached to the ‘coattails’ of the Privy Council.

Justice Panton cited as examples, Namibia, which has a delegation visiting the island currently and countries such as Australia, Canada and New Zealand, which manage all their judicial affairs.
