23 adults and 12 children have been left homeless after a fire gutted several houses in Downtown Kingston early this morning (August 8).

Emelio Ebanks of the Jamaica Fire Brigade says the houses were located at Smith Lane and James Street.

Firefighters received the call at about 4:57 am.

He says investigators are trying to determine what caused the blaze.
