by September 15th, 2022

Member of Parliament for Western St. Mary, Robert Montague is calling for an increase in the salaries of parliamentarians.

Speaking in the House of Representatives yesterday (September 14), Mr. Montague said MPs must be included in the public sector wage review.

While noting that MPs often have to support constituents from their own salaries, he stated that ministers should also be paid more

Mr. Montague also wants better health coverage to be offered to Members of Parliament and senators.

He said there also needs to be an increase in the amount allocated to run the office of each MP, so that constituents can be better served.

Mr. Montague noted that many MPs are forced to pay out of pocket for food, medication and other emergencies for constituents, because the Constituency Development Fund, CDF process is too lengthy.
