Opposition wants information on NMIA divestment failure

by January 8th, 2016

Opposition spokesman on finance, Audley Shaw, is calling Transport and Works Minister, Dr Omar Davies, to provide further information for the failure to obtain bids to take over operations at the Norman Manley International Airport N-M-I-A.

Mr Shaw says the statement made earlier this week by the chairman of the N-M-I-A divestment team was cryptic and lacked fulsome information on the circumstances that led to the failure of the divestment team to receive bids for such a valuable asset.

Mr Shaw states that information needs to be provided on the actual cost of this failed effort.

The opposition spokesman says a fulsome, transparent and chronological statement must be issued.

He says the divestment of the Donald Sangster Airport led to a successful operation of that facility, as well as the granting of incentives for the successful operation of private lounges at the two international airports.

Mr Shaw adds that in the absence of critical information, the public is left with the impression that the divestment exercise was poorly managed.

He is asking Dr Davies to enumerate all the costs and initiatives involved in this failed divestment attempt.
