The Prosecution has won its first-ever appeal of the court’s decision since the law was amended in November, last year.

This, after the Appeal Court this morning (October 28), delivered its judgement to increase the sentence of Lindell Powell who was found guilty of murder.

On December 2, last year, Powell was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the murders of Oral Mcintosh in Lincoln District, Grange Hill, Westmoreland, on January 7, 2017, and Ika Clarke between March 25 and 26, 2017, in Mount Mountain also in Grange Hill, Westmoreland.

However, in a historical decision, the prosecution exercised its right to appeal.

The Director of Public Prosecutions had appealed on the grounds that the sentence was unduly lenient.

The Appeal Court in ruling in the prosecution’s favour today ordered that Powell be sentenced to life in prison and serve 24 years and 7 months before being eligible for parole.
