by February 8th, 2023

Motorists have amassed over $34 million in electronic traffic ticket fines since the implementation of the new Road Traffic Act.

That’s according to the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

The new Road Traffic Act came into effect on February 1, with public outcry against a number of it’s regulations.

According to the police, $5,533 tickets have been issued, amounting to some $34,925, 550.

Of that number, over $2 million has already been paid.

Speaking at a JCF conference on Tuesday, police commissioner Major General Antony Anderson said over 720,000 traffic tickets were issued in 2022.

He said as they seek to improve the e-ticketing system, they are expecting an end to manual traffic tickets by the end of 2023.
