Holness responds to ruling of Integrity Commission

by February 17th, 2023

Prime Minister Andrew Holness said the controversy surrounding the report tabled by the Integrity Commission earlier this week provides an opportunity for the legislation, which governs the Commission, to be reviewed.

In a report tabled in parliament on Tuesday, the Integrity Commission’s Director of Investigation cited a conflict of interest between the Prime Minister and the award of government contracts to the company of an associate.

Two days later, the ruling from the Commission’s Director of Corruption Prosecution, exonerated Holness, noting that the activities described in the report did not give rise to prosecutable offences and that no charge should be brought against him.

Upon his return to Jamaica from the Caricom heads of government meeting in Bahamas this afternoon, the Prime Minister stressed that his government is not in any way supportive of corruption.

The Prime Minister lamented that the report has been weaponized for political purposes.
