UWI student accused of assaulting ex-girlfriend remanded until March 17

Twenty-year-old university student Matthew Hyde, who allegedly held his ex-girlfriend in his dorm room against her will and assaulted her is to return to the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on March 17.

 

Hyde is charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, use of malicious communication, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and false imprisonment.

 

It is alleged that Hyde held his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend captive in his dorm room at the University of the West Indies for three days in February.

 

The complainant was allegedly assaulted with a clothes iron. She was found on February 9.

 

When Hyde appeared in court today (March 9), the court was informed that the case file was incomplete as several reports were not ready.

 

He was remanded in custody until March 17.
