A man was shot and killed by a licensed firearm holder, following an altercation in Red Hills, St Andrew, on Friday.

The deceased has not yet been identified.

Reports are that about 11: 10 pm, the licensed firearm holder was in a yard near his house, when he was alerted by a relative, that a man was on his car porch.

The licensed firearm holder, returned to his house to investigate, and saw the man.

The man reportedly drew a gun from his waistband, prompting the licensed firearm holder to fire several shots at him.

The wounded man was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A firearm recovered during the incident was handed over to the police.
