A nineteen-year-old man was shot and killed during a confrontation with the police in Wilton Gardens, Kingston, yesterday (April 19).

He has been identified as Nicholas Denton otherwise called ‘Fireball’, of Race Course Lane, Kingston 14.

A 9MM Browning pistol with three rounds of ammunition was also reportedly seized during the incident.

Commanding officer for the Kingston Western police, Senior Superintendent Michael Phipps, says Denton was well known to the police in the division, having had previous run ins with the law.

The Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau (IPROB) and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) are probing the incident.
