by April 22nd, 2023

A bill which seeks to establish the National Compliance and Regulatory Authority, NCRA as a statutory body to carry out regulatory functions previously discharged by the Bureau of Standards Jamaica, BSJ, was tabled and passed in the Senate, yesterday.

Commerce Minister Aubyn Hill noted that the legislation will allow Jamaica to be in conformity with international standards and obligations under the world trade technical barriers trade agreement.

He noted further that with the regulatory duties of the NCRA separated from the functions of the BSJ, there would be no conflict of interest.
