TODSS criticizes government for not holding public consultations about New Road Traffic Act

by May 5th, 2023

One taxi group has criticized the government for not holding public consultations about the New Road Traffic Act, especially amid reports that drivers licences are being suspended.

The reaction came from president of the Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services, (TODSS), Egeton Newman.

He noted a statement from the Island Traffic Authority, (ITA), regarding the suspension of licences, for drivers who have accumulated demerit points.

Mr Newman said the matter is of great concern to all motorists, because governments promise to review the controversial New Road Traffic Act, is yet to be conducted.

He chastised government for focusing on the penalty of increased fines, which is ineffective in curbing road fatalities.

Pointing to the public education campaigns, about the Covid pandemic and constitutional reform, Mr newman said road safety is just as important.
