Education Minister Fayval Williams says her Ministry needs to embark on an awareness campaign to get more students to turn up for classes on Fridays.

Speaking with IRIE FM news, Mrs. Williams noted that while her Ministry continues efforts to tackle absenteeism in schools it has been observed that on Fridays, many students are not attending classes.

Noting that this should not be the case, the Minister said steps will be taken to ensure that parents send their children to school when classes are in session.

Meantime, Mrs. Williams noted that while the general attendance of students has returned to pre-COVID levels, much more needs to be done to get more children back in the education system.

The Ministry had embarked on several initiatives aimed at getting students to return to the formal system following the pandemic.
