by July 14th, 2023

As Jamaica continues to face sweltering heat conditions, one People’s National Party Councillor is urging the Government to erect cooling stations across the island for members of the homeless population.

Jamaica has been experiencing record-high temperatures, prompting the Health Ministry to advise citizens to manage exposure to the potentially deadly heat.

Councillor of the Whitfield Division in St Andrew, Eugene Kelly has called on the Government to take the necessary steps to help protect homeless people from the threat of the heat wave.

He said cooling stations could help to keep persons within this vulnerable group hydrated, among other things.
