by July 20th, 2023

The police have warned that the counterfeit goods industry could pose financial risks for the country, as well as health risks for citizens.

The warning follows the seizure of some 200 million dollars worth of counterfeit clothing and shoes by the police in Downtown Kingston, yesterday (July 19).

One person has been arrested in relation to the matter.

Head of the Counter Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigations Branch’s Intellectual Property Unit, Assistant Superintendent of Police Victor Barrett said lawmen will continue efforts to dismantle the sale of counterfeit goods as dangerous chemicals may be used in the making of the items.

He added that the goods might have been made by victims of human trafficking.
