The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) is mourning the death of thirty-one year old Lance Corporal
Ricardo Bennett who was killed on Friday September 2, 2016 at a barber shop on Halfway Tree
Road in Kingston.
Lance Corporal Bennett, who served the JDF for 10 years and was a member of the Combat
Support Battalion, was killed at approximately 10:20 p.m., when he was shot by gunmen who
were attempting to rob the establishment.
According to the JDF, Lance Corporal Bennet was at a barbershop in the Cross Roads area, when
three gunmen entered and attempted to rob the shop. Bennett challenged the robbers with his
private firearm, hitting one in the process. Bennett was however shot by the gunman’s
accomplices who took his weapon before making their escape. The soldier was pronounced dead
on the spot by the JDF medical officer who arrived shortly after.
The Force is also asking members of the public who may have information regarding the event to come forward and assist the Police in bring the offenders to justice.
