Investigation launched into death of 3 yr old at May Pen Hospital

The Southern Regional  Health Authority, SRHA is to meet tomorrow with the mother of a child, who died at the May Pen Hospital in Clarendon on Friday January 6.

The Authority says an in depth investigation is being conducted and a comprehensive report will be shared.

A statement the from the SRHA  says it has carried out  out preliminary investigations into the case of  the  three year old child who was taken to the May Pen Hospital and died while undergoing treatment.

The Authority says it has been established, that the child was taken by his mother to the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department at 3: 50 a.m.  on January 6, with a complaint of vomiting. He was examined by a nurse and a doctor who determined that he was well enough to return home.

That evening his mother returned at 9 o’clock and  he was re-assessed and a deterioration in his condition was observed.

The statement says the team including a pediatrician and anaesthesiologist attempted to resuscitate the child, however, he died.
