by January 27th, 2017

The country’s two major telecommunications companies have joined forces with the government to promote the use of technology to fight crime.

Flow and Digicel are pushing the use of the Stay Alert App as a tool for personal security.

Both companies have committed to enabling customers to use the App whether or not they have an active data plan. The App will also be pre-loaded on phones very soon.

The ministry says it will be giant step in creating a safer Jamaica, if the over one million subscribers from both Flow and Digicel  know about and use  the App to report incidents of crime .

There have been just over 41 thousand downloads of the Stay Alert App so far. It allows users to report crime, use a panic button, access information about laws and provide alerts from the police.

General manager of Digicel Business ,  Brian Bennett Easy  in endorsing the initiative  says this is a step in the right direction  and will ultimately provide  the security forces with information  and the citizens with the peace of mind that  information provided will make a difference.

Meanwhile head of Product Support at Flow Troy Cockings says  his company has been promoting the use of the  app  through social media and other avenues.
