PSM wants parliamentary committee to examine pension schemes and retirement planning

by March 17th, 2017

Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller is proposing that a special standing committee on social security be established in parliament to focus on increasing participation in pension schemes.

She says this special standing committee should also place focus on promoting retirement planning and savings in the nation.  According to the Opposition Leader,  not many Jamaicans take the matter of pension and retirement planning seriously.

This is why she wants a comprehensive social security framework to take the country into the next 50 years.

Meantime Mrs Simpson Miller says the last 12 months under the Jamaica Labour Party administration were littered with broken promises.

She says the people were promised no new tax  to implement the 1 point 5 million dollar tax threshold, yet they were devastated with over 29 billion in new taxes to finance the so called give back.

She states that  other promises  are yet  to materialize.
