Danville Walker convicted of breaching OCG act

Former Director of Customs Danville Walker has been found guilty of breaching the Contractor General’s Act.

In court today (Apl 21) Walker, who is Managing Director of the Jamaica Observer limited, was fined $5,000 or spend 14 days in prison.

Walker was charged while he was head of the customs agency with failure to provide in a timely manner information that was requested by the office of the Contractor General in 2011

The information requested was in relation to a probe that was being conducted into the export of 97 containers of scrap metal after a ban had been placed on the industry.

Mr. Walker stated that at the time the request was made he was running in the General Elections and was not able to find the time to respond to the request in a timely fashion.

He also raised issue with the OCG making the request of him.
