EGC calls for speedy passage of corruption bill

by April 28th, 2017

Chairman of the Economic Growth Council (EGC) Michael Lee Chin is urging the government to step up efforts to complete the passage of two bills to confront terrorism and corruption.

Mr. Lee Chin was giving his presentation of the EGC’s second report to the nation at the University of the West Indies regional headquarters.

He reiterated that, in order for the EGC to facilitate its target of five per cent growth in four years these two bills should be passed.

Mr. Lee Chin said the bill to set up the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) as an independent agency was crucial to EGC’s goals in the first quarter.

He also urged the government to move to have the bill to merge anti-corruption agencies debated quickly.
