The police force has been plunged into mourning, in the midst of celebrating the installation of the new commissioner, after a young constable was gunned down in St. Andrew,this afternoon.

The identity of the policeman is being withheld, as his family has not yet been notified.

Details of the incident are sketchy at this time, but head of the Police Federation, Sergeant Raymond Wilson, says the cop was shot when he responded to a call of suspicious persons spotted at a business place, along Constant Spring Road.

Sergeant Wilson says another cop, escaped injury during the incident.

He says investigators have since cordoned off the area, and police presence has been boosted.
