Fire at Westwood contained; students hospitalised due to smoke inhalation

A massive fire at the Westwood High School in southern Trelawny last night destroyed a section of the decades old educational institution.

Head of the Trelawny police Superintendent Clive Blair says a report about the fire was made at about 10:00 p.m.

The police, as well as units from the Brown’s Town and Falmouth fire departments responded.

The blaze was put out and the fire fighters are carrying out cooling down operations.

Superintendent Blair says the fire, is believed to have started in the kitchen and spread to the dining room, the matron’s quarters, and 3 other areas.

He says about 8 student boarders have been transferred to the Falmouth hospital, as they have been affected by smoke inhalation.
