Not clear when normal classes will resume at Westwood High

by May 3rd, 2017

It is not clear when regular classes will resume at the Westwood High school in Trelawny, after fire gutted a section of the school last night (May 2).

There was no class today and many boarders were forced to go home.

Westwood High Principal Karen Francis says the school has received support from personnel who visited the institution this morning.

Meanwhile, plans have been made to accommodate students preparing for the Caribbean Secondary exams.

She says those living nearby should attend classes at the school, while others will be hosted at York Castle High in St. Ann.

She is appealing for help to replace items lost in the fire, including food.

The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen and spread to the dining room, canteen, the matrons quarters, and other areas.

In the meantime, the school’s board is planning a meeting for Friday in a bid to decide the next step.
