by May 12th, 2017

The local authorities are to take steps to make Jack Ruby Avenue (formerly James Avenue) a tourist attraction in the resort town of Ocho Rios, St. Ann.

There is an atmosphere of excitement in the area as residents, business people and visitors to the resort town celebrate the life of Jack Ruby.

Reggae Radio Irie FM is staging the second Jack Ruby festival, dubbed “The Black Experience”.

The event is being staged in association with the St. Ann Municipal Corporation, the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association, St. Ann Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Product Development Company (Tpdco).

Lawrence Lindo, better known as Jack Ruby, was a Jamaican record producer and sound system operator, best known for his 1970’s productions of artistes, such as Burning Spear.

Ruby was based in Ocho Rios and during his time was the only major Jamaican record producer not headquartered in Kingston.

Irie FM News spoke with Jack Ruby’s son Brad Lindo who said words could not  express how grateful he is for the recognition of his father.

He says he believes the street will regain its popularity as Jack Ruby is known worldwide and people will want to come there.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the St. Ann Municipal Corporation Mayor Michael Belnavis, who spoke during Irie FM’s Wake Up Call show, says the hope is to make Jack Ruby Avenue a tourist attraction.

He also commended Irie FM for partnering in developing communities.
