Whitmore invites 10 new players to Reggae Boyz training camp

Ten first-time invitees have been called up by head coach Theodore Whitmore for the national senior team as the Reggae Boyz intensify preparation heading towards next months’ friendly international against Peru, the CFU semi-finals in Martinique and the CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States.

The new invitees will be part of a week-long training camp which kicks off at Stadium East On Tuesday with training sessions in the morning and afternoon.

The schedule remains the same for Wednesday and will climax on Thursday morning with the final session at the JFF Technical Centre.

Two overseas players in Zachery Wallace (Florida) and Casey Reid (United Kingdom) are among the list of 10 which is completed by Leonard Rankine (Sandals), Javain Brown, Kemar Bennett (Harbour View), Shawn Genius (Reno), Fitzroy Cummings (Sporting Central Academy), Rodave Murray & Demarley Samuels (Waterhouse) and Johann Weatherly (Montego Bay United).

The 24-man squad is completed by Amahl Knight, Damion Hyatt, Fabian Reid, Ladale Ritchie, Rosario Harriott, Jamie Robinson, Jordane Fletcher, Tevin Shaw, Owayne Gordon, Alex Marshall, Shamar Nicholson, Jamiel Hardware, Fabian Grant and Craig Foster.

The first assignment will be against South American team Peru on June 13 in Arequipa.

Peru, ranked 17th by FIFA, is the fifth country in the current top 20 that the Reggae Boyz would have played since 2015 – the others being Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Mexico.

The team then moves on to defend its Caribbean Cup title in the finals of the Scotiabank CFU Men’s Caribbean Cup in Martinique playing against French Guiana in the first semi-final on June 22.

The Reggae Boyz will then seek to better their showing at the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, where they went to the final, with its first match against Curacao on July 9.

They then face Mexico on July 13 and El Salvador on July 16 in their last match in the group stage.
