ODPEM activates Emergency Centre

The government has ordered the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) to activate its National Emergency Operations Centre, at level two.

This, as several people have been forced from their homes, as a result of heavy rainfall across the island, since Saturday.

So far, no loss of life, has been reported.

Speaking at a special press conference, at the Office of the Prime Minister this afternoon (May 16), acting Prime Minister, Dr. Horace Chang, says all emergency teams, are on stand-by.

Dr. Chang also reported that at least thirty people were rescued from one community in Linstead, severely affected by rains.

Dr. Chang says, efforts will be made to assist residents in affected communities.

Meanwhile, Dr. Chang says teams from the National Works Agency (NWA) have been mobilised to clear blocked roads.

Speaking at a press conference at the Office of the Prime Minister this afternoon, Dr. Chang disclosed that Clarendon was the worst affected.

Dr. Chang provided further update on flooding several communities in Clarendon.

Dr. Chang also gave an update on the situation in other parishes affected by heavy rain.

He also reported on infrastructural damage and flooding in other areas.

An official tour and assessment of the damage is to be done tomorrow (May 17).
