Manchester United claimed their second major trophy of the season and secured a vital spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League after they blanked Ajax 2-nil to win the Europa League final in Stockholm.

First half goals from Paul Pogba and henry Mkhitaryan granted Manchester United their first Europa League crown on an emotional night following the attack which killed 22 people at Ariana Grande’s concert at the Manchester Arena on Monday.

Paul Pogba’s deflected shot put united ahead in the 18th minute and Mkhitaryan’s flicked in from Marouane Fellaini’s header completed the job.

Then later in the second half as Ajax pressed for a goal and man united a third, the final whistle could not come any sooner for the Jose Mourinho and his charges.

The result means United are now the fifth team to claim the full quota of European trophies, joining an illustrious list with Ajax, Chelsea, Juventus and Bayern Munich.
