Flood victims get compassionate cheques

Some 444 households that were impacted by flood rains in April, have benefited from compassionate cheques from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.

Labour Minister, Shahine Robinson, says over $9 m was earmarked to assist people in several parishes.

The cheques were handed over, today (May 24).

The Labour Minister says most of the beneficiaries are from Clarendon.

Other beneficiaries are from St. Thomas, St. Elizabeth, St. Andrew, and Portland.

Mrs. Robinson says, the amount that each household received differs, based on the extent of the damage.

She says all the assessments on the impact of the flood rains will be completed by May 26.
