Jeneive Russell- lone Jamaican winner in Rome Diamond League meet

Jeneive Russell was the lone Jamaican winner at the Rome Diamond League meeting in Italy today, the fourth stop on the IAAF Diamond League calendar.

Russell took victory in a season best 54.14 seconds, turning back the challenges of Sarah Petersen of Denmark who also clocked   a season best in crossing the line in 54.35 seconds,  and Wenda Theron Nel of South Africa who was third 54.58 seconds.

World Championship relay gold medalist Jamaica’s Novelene Williams -Mills  was a second place finisher in the women’s 400 metres.

Williams- mills stopped the clock in 51.04 seconds, to finish behind Natasha Hastings of the United States, who won in 50.52 seconds, another Jamaican Stephanie Ann McPherson was fifth in 51.52 seconds.

Christania Williams was fifth in the women’s 100 meters in a season best 11.32 seconds, the event was won by  Daphne Schippers of the Netherlands in 10.99.

Earlier in the field another Jamaican Kimberley Williams finished fifth in the women’s triple jump event with a leap of 14.21 metres, which was won by Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela with a  leap  of 14.84 metres, with second place going to the Olympic champion Catherine Ibrarguen of Colombia  in a season best 14.78 metres .
