Brooklyn woman convicted of hiring hitman to kill Jamaican husband

A Brooklyn woman has been convicted of hiring a hitman to kill her Jamaican husband, in scheme to collect US $900,000 in insurance money.

According to reports in the NY Daily News, jurors on Thursday found 29 year old Alishia Noel Murray guilty of murder, attempted murder and weapon possession in the February 23, 2013 assassination of her husband, Jamaican born Omar Murray.

Murray’s mother, also a Jamaican, expressed satisfaction with the court’s ruling, adding that she still misses her son.

The court head that Noel-Murray plotted with her partner, Dameon Lovell, to hire a hitman for US $3,400 to kill Murray, so she could collect on three life insurance policies.

Lovell cooperated with prosecutors in exchange for 15 years to life in prison.

The alleged shooter, Kirk Portious, murdered Murray at his Brownsville home.

Noel-Murray denied involvement in the slaying of her husband, when she took the stand.

She will be sentenced on June 29.

Meantime, the jury has not yet returned a verdict for Portious.
