Kaliese Spencer cleared of anti-doping violation charges

by June 13th, 2017

Commonwealth Games 400m hurdles champion Kaliese Spencer has been cleared of an anti-doping violation on charges that she refused or evaded a drug test on April 2016.

The ruling was made by the Independent Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel who delivered its final verdict earlier this afternoon at the Jamaica Conference Centre in Kingston.

The submission of documents by the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO) is that Spencer along with former training partner Riker Hylton, refused to be tested last year.

The allegations which carried a four year ban, are that the athletes “have violated article 2.3” of JADCO rules which, in effect, says they refused to give a sample when asked to by a JADCO collections officer

However the panel, chaired by Kent Gamon, in making its decision said they “Were not persuaded” that Spencer “Had committed a breach”.

It now means that no sanction can be placed on Spencer who will have to stand the cost of the hearing.

The double silver medallist at the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships is now free to compete at the upcoming Jamaican national senior trials.
