Elaine Thompson and Yohan Blake retain 100 meters national titles

Elaine Thompson captured her second national 100 meters title after winning the event last night at the JAA’S/Puma Senior Athletics Championship at the National Stadium.

The sprint double Olympic champion blew away the field to post a season best 10.71 seconds, just outside of the national record of 10.70.

Second in the event was Simone Facey in 11.04seconds, with Jura levy third 11.06 seconds while Thompson’s MVP track club team-mate Christiania Williams was sixth in 11.17 seconds.

On the men’s side Yohan Blake signaled his readiness for the world championship in London after blazing to 9.90 seconds, Julian forte was second 10.04 while Senojay Givens was third in 10.05 seconds. Odeen Skeen pulled up and failed to finish, while Asafa Powell who showed some discomfort in the semi-final did not turn out for the final.

Earlier, former Wolmer’s High school stand-out and world youth champion Jaheel Hyde captured his first senior national 400 meters hurdles title,  after winning the event in 48.53 seconds, Kemar Mowatt was second also in 48.53 seconds while Ricardo Cunningham was third in 48.83 seconds.

Ronda Whyte also won her first national title, when she created a stunning upset to set a new personal best of 54.29 seconds in winning the women’s 400 meters hurdles, Ristanana Tracey got a season best for the runner spot after she crossed the line in a season best 54.49 seconds while Leah Nugent was third in 54.54 seconds also in a season best.
