by July 5th, 2017

Barcelona have secured the services of talisman Lionel Messi until 2021.

The Argentinian will sign a new deal in the coming weeks once he returns for pre-season training, having agreed terms on a new contract which will see his association with the Catalan club extend beyond two decades.

According to Spanish media the new deal contains a 300m euro (£263m) buy-out clause and comes after Messi reportedly rejected an initial offer in May.

Since breaking into the Barcelona first team aged 17 under Frank Rijkaard, Messi has won eight La Liga titles, the Champions League four times, the Copa Del Rey Five times and the FIFA Club World Cup on three occasions.

The 30 year has scored a club-record 507 goals in 583 matches since his competitive debut in 2004.

Messi, who is currently on honeymoon after marrying childhood sweetheart Antonela Roccuzzo, is also La Liga’s record scorer with 349 goals.
