Usain Bolt has become the first person to win the ESPYS for the Best International Athlete three times, after being announced winner at Wednesday’s ceremony in Los Angeles.

Bolt, previously named Best international Athlete in 2009 and in 2013, copped the award after a season during which he won gold in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay at Rio 2016 to complete an unprecedented ‘triple-treble’ at three consecutive Olympics.

In winning, the 30 year old – named the Best Track and Field Athlete in 2010 – beat out the likes of Real Madrid and Portugal striker Cristiano Ronaldo and mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor who were the shortlisted candidates.

Other award winners include Russell Westbrook (Best Male Athlete), Simone Biles (Best Female Athlete), Serena Williams (Best Female Tennis Player), Roger Federer (Best Male tennis Player), Michael Phelps (Best Male US Olympic Athlete), LeBron James (Best NBA Player), Lewis Hamilton (Best Driver), Kevin Durant (Best Championship Performance) and Golden State Warriors (Best Team).
