Windies Women end World Cup on losing note

The West Indies Women suffered their 5th loss on Saturday to end their campaign at the ICC Women’s World Cup in England.

They went down by 92 runs to the tournament hosts at Bristol to end 3rd from bottom in the 8 team tournament.

Chasing 221 for victory, the Windies slumped to 128 for 9 from their 50 overs with Hayley Mathews the major contributor with 27 runs and Chadean Nation adding 23.

Afy Fletcher, with 3 for 33, had earlier helped to restrict England to 220 for 7 with Deandra Dottin, Qiana Joseph, Anissa Mohammed and Mathews grabbing a wicket each.

Heather Knight topped the batting for England with a half century knock of 67 which included 5 boundaries.

England with the result topped the table on net run rate over Australia who also ended on 12 points after beating South Africa by 59 runs.

India were third on 10 points after notching a 186 runs win over New Zealand while the last semi-final spot went to the South Africans who finished 4th on 9 points.

The first semi-final on Tuesday sees England Women facing South Africa Women at Bristol and semi-final two on Thursday has Australia Women against India Women at Derby.
